Margaret "Margaret" is a retired teacher who developed first "Irritable Bowel Syndrome", then asthma, in 1992. Ten years prior to this she had undergone extensive investigations for a suspected hiatus hernia and had occasionally needed medical treatment for acute anxiety attacks and depression. Margaret had also had 5 abdominal operations over the years, which included an appendectomy, two caesarians, a laparoscopy, and a hiatus hernia operation. She had lost her father in 1992 with a rapidly growing stomach cancer and her mother had died suddenly in 1996 with an aneurysm. Margaret came for EFT in September 1999. As the sessions progressed, Margaret was able to talk about the grief she had bottled up around her father's death - he had died within 3 months of the diagnosis being made. "We had to be brave because he was". The bowel problems began several weeks after the funeral, followed by the asthma. The field associated with her lungs and her abdomen was very disrupted, but began to improve markedly as the week went by. In parallel with this, Margaret was able to identify other important areas of her life and aspects of her personality that were contributing to the disturbances in her health. By the fourth day she felt "much lighter", less wheezy, more optimistic and brighter in herself, not as "serious", and wanting to exercise more. Over the next couple of months the frequency of the attacks of IBS reduced considerably, so that sometimes she was even able to manage without medications. When it did flare up she was able to cope much better, "it didn't get me down". Her energy levels were much higher, so much so that she was able to resume part-time teaching and was running up and down the stairs! Her breathing was better and she still felt lighter. Margaret was also busier and enjoying it. Margaret's improvement has been maintained and would certainly benefit from further EFT.
